Citric acid is an organic compound found in citrus fruit. It's commonly used as a natural food additive to enhance the flavour and acidity of some foods and drinks. It's also used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and, importantly, the cleaning industry!

It is a versatile product to use around your home. Here are 5 ways to use...

  1. Kitchen appliance descaler e.g. kettles and coffee machines. To descale the kettle simply boil half a kettle of water, add a tablespoon of citric acid, leave for 20 minutes and then rinse!
  2. Surface cleaner. Simply dissolve and dilute citric acid in a spray bottle of water. Perfect for counter tops and bathroom surfaces!
  3. Toilet bowl descaler. A build up of limescale causes the toilet bowl to become stained and unsightly. Citric acid will dissolve this with ease! Just pour a kettle of hot water into the toilet bowl, add two tablespoons of citric acid and leave overnight.
  4. Dishwasher cleaner. Add citric acid to an empty cycle and the citric acid will clean, descale and improve the performance of your dishwasher.
  5. Laundry booster. Citric acid can boost the cleaning power of your detergent and helps remove stains and soften clothes.

So there we have it; 5 easy ways to use citric acid. It's not only a powerful descaler, it also cleans, removes stains and disinfects. A fantastic home cleaning staple!
